Within Paris, there are a few places dedicated to wine. These are not really wineries that produce wine inside the city, but wine museums or wine bars that offer guided tours in wonderful locations, such as historical underground wine cellars.
Venture beyond Paris to explore renowned wine regions, all within easy reach.
Only 1,5 hours drive from Paris by car, or 45 minutes by train if you want to go to Reims, the Champagne region is a must see for wine lovers travelling in Paris. Visit there iconic champagne houses in Reims or Epernay, such as Champagne Lanson, Champagne Taittinger, Champagne Pommery or Champagne Mercier. Learn about the méthode champenoise and enjoy exclusive tastings. You can also meet small champagne houses and talk directly with the owners, a unique experience.
Even if this wine region is not as famous as others, young wineries have been appearing on the scene in recent years. For instance, the domaine de la Bouche du Roi is a nice vineyard that is located not so far from Versailles, and is producing organic wines.
Drive only 2 hours in the south of Paris and you'll be already in the Loire Valley region, location of the famous scenic castles. There, you will discover several wine appellations, both producing white and red wines. Sancerre is one the most interesting appellation and a really beautiful village overlooking the surrounding vineyards.
Also located at 2 hours drive from the city of Paris, Chablis is the closest Burgundy wine appellation from Paris. There, you will enjoy dry white wines made from the famous Chardonnay grape variety. These ones are mineral driven and are produced both by small producers and famous wineries such as Domaine Laroche.
